Double Changing Palm: Double Changing Palm is the palm conversion method that focuses on twisting/turning in the dimension of up/down. Up/Down is the most important element in spinning/turning, as it forms the center axis. Double Changing Palm contains a movement of spinning upward and converging, overturning, and dropping in a tornado spiral. This has the movement energy of a tailspin spiral.
The key to establishing the Central Axis is practice of elastic movement, swinging, and twisting. These movements are the foundation of centripetal and centrifugal energy. Right/left, front/back, and up/down are the 3 basic elements of the walking-turn (revolution) and the spinning-turn (rotation.) The three basic palms of Ba Gua Zhang accord to each of these three basic elements, thus establishing the body center axis: Right/Left Turning Changing Palm, Front/Back Single Changing Palm, and Up/Down Double Changing Palm.
Tactics: First is to establish one’s own center axis, second is to control a partner’s central axis. This enables movement to the side and back of the opponent. The coordination of front/back, right/left, and up/down promotes three-dimensional tactical development. The falling spiral motion (from up to down) utilizes gravity as its basic energy, with a whirlpool motion that is difficult to stop. The rising spiral motion (from down to up) accomplishes a three-dimensional siege of the enemy, and enables amplification of power and evolution of angle. |
